MANIA
Mania TV Review: Falling Skies You too can be a guerilla fighter! The most important names associated with Falling Skies actually aren't Steven Spielberg's, though his fingerprints definitely appear all over the pilot. Instead, look to series creator Robert Rodat, who wrote Saving Private Ryan, and Graham Yost, whose Justified has been flat-out the best thing on television in the last two years. Those names can deliver a lot of grit, which Falling Skies carries in spades. The premiere episode (airing this Sunday at 9:00 PM EDT) is not as deep as it thinks it is, nor as tied to reality as it wants us to believe. But it loves both its subject matter and the desperate, cunning characters at its heart. That packs a considerable punch. More here: www.mania.com/mania-tv-review-falling-skies_article_130218.html

Television Blend
Falling Skies Review: Series PremiereTNT’s Falling Skies is in a way a harkening back to the classic tales, where it’s about the people who struggle to deal with the extraordinary who are important. Even from seeing only the first 5 or so episodes there’s also a sense that discovering the reality of the alien’s intentions will reveal a lot about mankind. But don’t get too involved in the heady existential discussion, because Falling Skies doesn’t. More here: www.cinemablend.com/television/Falling-Skies-Review-Series-Premiere-32871.html

SF SIGNAL
'Falling Skies' Lands This Weekend - Here's Our ReviewIt seems like a given that anything with Steven Spielberg's name attached to it is expected to be good. Certainly that's the case with Falling Skies, a new TNT program about the aftermath of an alien invasion, executive produced by Spielberg. Does it live up to those high expectations? More here:

FALLING SKIES – The TV ReviewWith the relative disappointment of alien invasion films like SKYLINE and BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, the genre has suffered recently. Similar television failures have come and gone, including the cancellation of ABC’s revival of the V series, which lasted only two seasons. So, the lingering question is whether another alien invasion TV series can survive? More here: wearemoviegeeks.com/2011/06/falling-skies-the-tv-review/#.Tfrkb-0LFz4;twitter

Sci FI Storm
A first look at Falling SkiesAs I mentioned several days ago, I received an interesting package. This was the preview press kit for the upcoming TNT series Falling Skies, from DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg, and stars Noah Wyle (ER, The Librarian). I don’t want to give too much away (and TNT doesn’t want me to either), but the series is set in Massachusetts six months after an alien invasion in which about 80% of the population has been wiped out, and children are captured and given a “harness” – an alien bio-device that attaches to their spine and essentially gives the aliens a mindless menial task force – for reasons unknown. Sci-Fi Mafia
TV Review: Falling Skies: Episode 1 “Live and Learn” and Episode 2 “The Armory”In an interesting twist of fate, I was talking with a friend of mine recently about sci-fi genres. He said that his favorite kind of sci-fi is when something about the nature of humans overcomes the impossible odds of an alien invasion. If there is such a genre (isn’t that in almost ALL sci-fi tv shows, in one way or another?), this show represents. BUT don’t count this one out as being predictable or schlocky. In fact, it’s not clear that humans will prevail at all, in the overall scheme of things, and that is one of the strengths of the show. A.V. ClubFalling Skies "Live And Learn"/"The Armory" The smartest decision the producers of Falling Skies—who include among their number Steven Spielberg, screenwriter Robert Rodat, Battlestar Galactica veteran Mark Verheiden, and Justified showrunner Graham Yost—made was to open the series months after the alien villains invaded the Earth. There’s no long, punishingly slow build-up to the invasion, like there was on the V remake, for instance. The war is in the past. Humanity lost and lost badly. And now those who fight back are mostly fighting back because they don’t know what else to do and are well aware they’re unlikely to defeat the alien horde. Hell, the best that main character Tom Mason (a very good Noah Wyle) hopes for is to become enough of an irritant to the aliens that they decide Earth’s not worth the trouble and move on to some other planet. But even he seems to know that’s a tall order when the aliens have such an obvious technical advantage over us humans. More here: www.avclub.com/articles/live-and-learnthe-armory,57747/

NEWSHERALDFalling Skies' is surprisingly fantasticA sci-fi, alien-invasion drama on TNT? From Steven Spielberg? Really?! Those were my thoughts going into screening “Falling Skies,” but it took all of 30 seconds to change my mind. (Its executive producer was Spielberg, after all.) I found the serial drama/thriller, which debuts with a two-hour installment tonight (June 19) at 8 p.m. CDT, to be engaging, smart and, well, surprisingly good. APNA DESIFalling Skies - Review 1Share 8:54 PM Zee TNT premiering Falling Skies in the neighborhood of Summer movie season was a smart move – this is one televised alien epic that delivers big screen thrills week after week that you don’t have to leave home for. Having watched about eight hours of Falling Skies so far, and being a well-qualified science-fiction freak with a sub interest in UFOs, I can offer a general opinion to like-minded TV and Movie fans upfront: watch it, you won’t be disappointed. Now let’s see if I can sell this thing to the skeptics. More here: www.apnadesi.net/2011/06/falling-skies-review.html#.TfrdrXgVPrw;twitter
