I know they've tried to force a lot of parallels of the American revolution into the show with the regiment naming system and so on. But the one that always screamed out at me was the Vietnam war. Highly advanced MECHanised army attacks a relatively primitive country who despite devastatingly high casualty rates keep bleeding the enemy at every turn sucking thier moral and their will to fight until he finally calls it quits and cries home to momma. Since ive never heard other people discuss this comparison on any board i can only assume im alone in this? opinions Attachments:

Skitter rebellion: Has there ever been any cases of an invading army having large groups of their own soldiers defecting and joining the defenders?
The only one I can think of is the San Patricios from the Mexican-American War.

really why did they defect? Religious conviction would be the simple answer: America was a Protestant country launching a pretty ill-justified invasion of a Catholic country, and most of the defecting soldiers were recent immigrants from Ireland and other Catholic nations. Another reason was dissatisfaction with the behaviour of the US Army towards its soldiers, and the behaviour of the soldiers towards the Mexican people. Lastly, Antonio López de Santa Anna liked to make rather lavish promises towards anyone who would fight for him. He offered them considerably better pay than the US Army, and promised land grants after the war.

an ill justified war ? America? surely not
Wow didnt take them long to become as imperialistic as their so called oppressors Mark twain had it right
maybe when George Lucas does his next star wars abomination he'll have the rebel alliance becoming just as bad as the empire with Luke becoming the ex drug taking president and one private firm getting all the non bid government contracts

Relent, demon. Anyway, something about the batfaces reminds me of the mobile infantry from Starship Troopers (book version). Or failing that, angels (Old Testament version).

my new theory is itll be like Afghanistan (80s Afghanistan ,mind) the filthy reds invade and the hard pressed rebels (mujahidin) suddenly find they have a new ally who supply them with good weapons as long as there killing commies. except of course the US decides to betray them once the soviets finally fold
this doesn't bode well for batface

part 2 Peace is declared and a new commie(ish) native president takes over Afghanistan but the US dont like that and funds the Taliban (god bless em) to take out the new red government. in an incredibly bloody civil war killing tens of thousands. some old mujahidin types remember there former allies' betrayal and decide what to do next 9/11
